About Me

My name is Brycen Raybon and I am an Occupational Therapist. I graduated with my Master of Occupational Therapy degree in May 2019 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Throughout occupational therapy school, I was involved in an on-campus program known as the “Crimson Club,” where we served as ambassadors to various speakers and guests on campus. This organization allowed me to meet a wide range of influential individuals in the medical world and expand my knowledge of things that were going on across campus and within other fields outside of occupational therapy.

I also attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK for my undergraduate degree in Health Studies and minored in Psychology. *Boomer Sooner!* I absolutely love going to OU football games and have already joined the OU Alumni of New York to continue cheering on my Sooners from afar.

Before college, I grew up in Tampa, Florida until I was 11 years old and then moved to Mckinney, Texas. It’s a small town outside of Dallas with all the southern charm and historic downtown shops. I have been living in Manhattan since the summer of 2019, and am still learning how to tackle public transit and all the things to do in the city!

In my free time, I enjoy reading, yoga, and cooking. I love trying out new recipes and reading in the park. Also, I enjoy spending time with friends, family, and pets, as well as planning trips and traveling to new places! I am an absolute sucker for all baked goods, so let me know the must-try bakeries in the area.

Becoming an Occupational Therapist

My road to becoming an Occupational Therapist started when I was very young. I have been interested in the medical field for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I would watch shows filmed in various hospitals on the TLC channel. As I grew up, my love for medicine shifted to a specific population of children with special needs. My mother and I had created a Sunday School class for students with special needs at our home church which flourished. We had so much fun creating weekly stories and lesson plans which we could make interactive and incorporate all ages and abilities. It was through this class that I fell in love with Occupational Therapy! A parent had suggested it as a career path because her son was working with an OT; I observed once and was hooked!

Over time, I have grown to love so many things about the field of occupational therapy, but I think that my favorite aspect is the carryover into everyday life. I love to incorporate everyday tasks such as cooking, playing in the community, and activities of daily living like dressing. I think that is imperative to use these skills as a means of intervention as well as fun games and swings.

Joining CommuniKids

Now that I am a part of the CommuniKids team, I am most excited about the community! Everyone has been so incredibly kind and offering experiences to learn and grow every day. I can tell how much they value continued education and fostering understanding and collaboration between all fields.

I am looking forward to continuing to learn and grow as a therapist, and learn from all the wonderful employees and families here at Communikids! I am very excited to have joined the Communikids family and am looking forward to meeting all of the great families and kids!
